Iwahana Kiln - Iwahana Takagi

A Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery studio in Kyoto’s Higashiyama area, operating since the early Meiji period. The sixth-generation heir, Ryuta Takagi, studied traditional pottery techniques in depth in Kyoto before refining his unique style through training in Okinawa. While valuing traditional painting techniques such as gosu and aka-e, he freely employs iron painting, gold decoration, and other methods, approaching pottery with an unfettered sensibility that is not bound by existing conventions.
